The "Berliner Recycling- und Sekundärrohstoffkonferenz 2022 (BRSK)" took place from the 7th to the 8th of March. The conference was organized by TK Verlag together with Professor Dr.-Ing. Daniel Goldmann from Clausthal University of Technology and Professor Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Bernd Friedrich from RWTH Aachen University.

With topics ranging from politics and society to sustainability, the conference is aimed at executives and experts from various sectors, including industry, administration and business as well as science.

The City of Aachen and RWTH Aachen University were also present at this year's conference. The City of Aachen was represented by Mr. Heiko Thomas from Department VII Climate and Environment, City Operations and Buildings. He summarized the goals and challenges of the city of Aachen in the field of circular economy and its importance in his presentation titled "Circular Cities Declaration - Aachen on the way to the resource turnaround".

From RWTH Aachen University, the Institute for Anthropogenic Material Cycles (ANTS) and the Institute for Process Metallurgy and Metal Recycling (IME) were present; both active institutes in the Center for Circular Economy (CCE) of RWTH Aachen University. In addition to moderating individual sessions and a contribution on plastics recycling by Professor Greiff (ANTS) and Professor Friedrich (IME), Merle Hüsgen (ANTS) and Dzeneta Vrucak (IME) presented the RWTH collaborative project "100 Smartphones". In their presentation, they outlined the need and possible approaches for interface optimization between pretreatment and recycling of smartphones. In the further course of the project, the aim is to develop a concept that allows optimized recovery of metals.
