Aachen becomes a pioneer in circular economy.
On October 27, 2021, Mayor Sybille Keupen signed the Circular Cities Declaration in the Coronation Hall. Around 60 European cities have already joined the initiative, including the city of Freiburg. Aachen is thus committed to working on circular economy and sustainable transformation of the regional economy and society.
Representing the RWTH Aachen University, Prof. Bernd Friedrich, a founding member of the Center for Circular Economy (CCE), and Prof. Kathrin Greiff, the rectorate representative for Sustainability at the RWTH Aachen University, shed light on the importance of the transformation to a circular economy. In addition to representatives of the city's public utilities, regional companies and initiatives presented their contributions to shaping a sustainable future.
The city of Aachen aims to become climate-neutral by 2030. To this end, the CCE bundles the competencies and expertise of RWTH Aachen University in the field of the circular economy across all faculties. The Center strives to establish itself as a regional and internationally recognized body for circular economy.
