Institute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering (INaB)
Presentation of the Institute
In its daily activities INaB is facing the challenge of sustainable development and environmental protection. The work in the field of sustainability assessment and research is intended to contribute to the needed social transformation towards a resilient co-existence of future societies and ecosystems.
“The increasing consumption of natural resources is currently a major challenge we must face. The way to a sustainable circular economy is essential.”
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marzia Traverso
Through the circular economy, products are used as optimally as possible, waste is avoided by recycling, and natural resources are being conserved. Because of this, circular economy is generally regarded as sustainable. However, the question arises to what extent the circular economy can actually be classified as better in the sustainability assessment, e.g. by using more chemicals and how resource conservation can be fairly considered in life cycle assessments (LCA). INaB's broad experience in sustainability assessment enables the team to conduct research with indicators and to gain new insights regarding sustainability in the circular economy.
